Shrewd movie goers will recognize several characters from 2002's original Ice A ge, whose triumvirate of Manny, Sid and Diego (plus the mad squirrel) rescued a gurgling human baby from the jaws of Diego's more carnivorous colleagues. Only slightly less moody are a squirrel with symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder and a pair of mischievous opossum brothers ( Seann William Scott and Josh Peck), who, while cheerful, seem inordinately bent on killing themselves.ĭeluded mammoth, grieving mammoth, phobic cat, self-loathing sloth, obsessive rodent and arguably suicidal opossums: a self-help group for the (ice) ages. But Ellie's a well-adjusted pachyderm compared to fellow mammoth Manny ( Ray Romano, doing his best sad sack), who grieves for the loss of his family and refuses to acknowledge the impending extinction of the species.Īlso in distress are Sid the Sloth (sibilantly spat by John Leguizamo), a three-toed Rodney Dangerfield in search of respect, and Diego (natural growler Denis Leary), a saber-tooth tiger and recalcitrant aquaphobe. Orphaned in babyhood, she was reared by kindhearted opossums and is a touch genus-confused, believing she, too, was born to play dead. This particular woolly mammoth - Ellie, warmly voiced by Queen Latifah - does have problems.
